When I am old...

Post by Luney on Thu Dec 08, 2016 11:07 am

What will you do when you are older and don't have to worry about career or kids anymore?
Assuming your kids are independent, you have no other commitments to hold you and you have enough means to do the things you want to -
Where would you like to retire?
and
How would you spend your time? What hobbies would you have?

Apart from the fact that me and Nighty are obviously gonna be 2 old maids living in a Cornwall cottage sitting on the front porch, observing everything and everyone nearby and slagging of the youth of these days...

I would either like to retire somewhere tropical or retire home in Estonia in my family farm. That's kind of guilt and fear half talking, because me and my cousin are the only ones left who could take over after my aunt passes Neutral  Since she has no kids and doesn't want any, then maybe I should, because it would break my heart to see the home my ancestors worked so hard for either die or get sold Crying or Very sad

Other than that I would like to spend more time

Reading...

Possibly Writing some memoirs, fiction or a blog...

Traveling around the world...

Spending more time on Photography, especially travel photography...

Hang around the town with Friends Smile

Painting and Drawing...

I would do a whole bunch of home DIY projects, I would love to know how to do Upholstery for example...
Pick up cool stuff from flea markets and give it new life.

I'd learn to Sew my own clothes and to Knit... (Actually I would love to do that now, not when I'm old, so I could actually look good in my DIY clothes)

and then I'm between being a fit pensioner that goes for daily runs around the lake Laughing or be the opposite and lounge around while baking delicious cakes and pastry and just eat myself to oblivion and early cholesterol rich death What a Face

You will definitely be a busy old lady, Luney. Wink
If I live until old age and am not too sick, I plan to do roughly the same as ever - write academic articles/books, teach, present at conferences, play violin, write fiction and poetry, draw, write children's books...  and I guess by then I'll hopefully have some grandchildren to look after as well, and perhaps I will settle into things like gardening and baking some more. One thing that is very important - I would like to swim a lot. Some of my family's oldest friends (in both senses of "old") were/are always swimming even in their 70s, and it helps to stay fit and healthy to a degree that is incredible.

I will probably be one of those little old ladies who pretty much lives in the Bodleian libraries in Oxford. What a Face

I would like to live by the sea

I want to have the freedom to travel to all the places I havent had the opportunity to see.

It would be nice to have a partner to do these things with.

I'd like to socialise more, go for more meals out and drinks

I'd like to keep doing my volunteer work.

And of course, if there are Grandkids i'd like to spoil them rotten and take them on holidays Smile

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me,
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,
and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired,
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells,
And run my stick along the public railings,
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens,
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat,
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
Or only bread and pickle for a week,
And hoard pens and pencils and beer mats
and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
And pay our rent and not swear in the street,
And set a good example for the children.
We will have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised,
When suddenly I am old
and start to wear purple!
