Do you think its important and we should be doing it more?

Does it make a difference to your life and how you feel about everything?

Thanks, Sparkle, what a great topic. Very Happy I think it's very important.

I like writing down things about myself that I value, as a reminder. Just reading those things when you're feeling less than great about yourself can lift you up a bit and remind you of the things that you stand for; they show you that you are a part of the things that you believe in and cherish. For example, if you value kindness and honesty, reminding yourself that you are a kind and honest person can help to make you feel worthy. Always focus on the things that matter to you. But even smaller things like "I have great hair!" or "I'm a great cook" can add to the bigger picture of self-love, self-worth, and self-confidence; as a great cook, you can give others delicious, nutritious meals; as someone with great hair, you're part of a wonderful family heritage of people with great hair who passed their genes down to you. Very Happy

Personally, I've realised that I feel best about myself when I'm engaged with the things I'm most passionate about - music, nature, literature, theatre, philosophy, Buddhism, loving-kindness.... and seeing yourself as part of all those things that matter to you is such a wonderful way to be uplifted.

Also, I love thinking about concepts from eastern philosophy and modern physics, such as interbeing and no self; I like to see myself in every person, and realise that even someone like Beethoven was "me". This poor little ego self that sometimes feels bad isn't the real me, the real me is the universe. Smile And the same goes for the real you, because you are me, too. Very Happy

I hope these same techniques can work for somebody else. Smile

Here's a video I just found, from Adyashanti; he makes some points that pertain to self-perception...

I've kept a list of the things that are good about me for years its always something that helps if i'm feeling really low or bad about myself.

The main thing I try to work on because I still struggle is accepting its ok to have flaws and not be perfect, I still beat myself up terribly if I do something I percieve to be bad, for example if i'm stressed and I get snappy, I end up feeling worse than I was because I feel guilty for taking it out on someone else, and it just ends up in this negative cycle thats hard to get out of.
