Easy Meditations

Post by Evie on Thu May 26, 2016 5:45 pm

Body Scan Meditation

Block out 10 minutes, lie down somewhere comfortable, and spend a minute focusing on your breathing.

Now, imagine you’re taking a scan of your whole body, starting with your feet and moving past your torso on up to your head.

Just “feel” each body part as you scan over it, then allow it to fade and move on. Dismiss any thoughts that stray from your focus.

According to brain imaging studies [S-4] [S-5] [S-6], meditation can lower high blood pressure and lessen chronic pain, anxiety and depression. It alters regions of the brain associated with memory, self-awareness and compassion.

So how exactly does meditation reduce anxiety? In a 2013 study, scientists at Wake Forest identified the brain functions involved in the process. While meditating, participants showed greater brain activity in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, the area that controls worrying. And when activity increased in the anterior cingulate cortex (the part of the brain that controls thinking and emotions), anxiety levels also decreased. The best part, at least for beginner meditators? You don't have to sit for 30 minutes to reap the benefits: According to the lead author of the study, Fadel Zeidan, Ph.D, "just a few minutes of mindfulness meditation can help reduce normal everyday anxiety."

I've always had my own little mindfulness healing meditation i do before i sleep, well i havent done it for a while as i'm feeling pretty healthy but sometimes i'll still send a little bit of healing energy if i have a minor problem

When i go to bed, i close my eyes and i focus on my beathing until my thought chatter has quietened and i'm focused, then i will start to focus on my body starting from my head and i will talk to it and thank it for all its hard work, each area individually (head, hair, eyes, ears etc) i will tell it how much i'm grateful for what it does and how much i trust it to stay healthy and strong and if there's an area troubling me i will ask it to heal and to look after itself. once i've done that i'll picture this gentle white energy flowing up and down through my body healing and rejuvenating everything.

That sounds like such a wonderful positive meditation Nighty. I love you I will have to try it myself! I can imagine how healthy it must be, too.
